Disabilities
Accommodations for a disability as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act or Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1974 are available for on-line educational experiences. Student responsibilities in the disability accommodation process are generally greater in post-secondary education than in high school. Before students can receive accommodations, they must self-identify as a person with a disability, request specific accommodations, and provide recent documentation that clearly supports requested accommodations. Services must be requested well in advance of when they will be needed.
Procedures for securing accommodations for disabilities vary from campus to campus. However, there are common elements to each process. The Admissions department or campus home page at each institution can provide contact information for getting you connected to the right department or service on campus. Disability-related information and documentation is confidential.
The Missouri Association on Higher Education and Disability Transition Guidebook is an excellent resource for information about the process and transition issues: http://www.stlcc.cc.mo.us/fv/moahead/index.html
